Adding a method

Go to You, then Payout method, then Add a method. You see the methods your country offers, in this order:

Where you live Methods
UK, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey PayPal, UK bank
US Venmo, PayPal, Bank account
Canada PayPal, Bank account
India, the Philippines, Brazil PayPal
Everywhere else we pay PayPal, Bank transfer

A method you can't use yet stays in the list, greyed out, with the reason, for example "Verify your ID (Tier 2) to add a bank account". Methods your country doesn't offer aren't shown.

  • PayPal: your PayPal email. We send a confirmation code to check it's yours. Paid in your own currency: pounds, dollars, euros or Canadian dollars.
  • UK bank (Tier 2): sort code, account number and the name on the account. We check the name with the bank (Confirmation of Payee) and show you the result. Paid in pounds.
  • Bank account or bank transfer (Tier 2): the name on the account and the details your country needs, such as an IBAN or a routing number. Paid in your bank's currency.
  • Venmo (US only, Tier 1 and above): the US phone number on your Venmo account. Paid in US dollars.

The rates by country page lists the methods for every country we pay.

Why we ask you to confirm it's you

Adding or changing a payout method is the moment a stolen account would try to move money. So it asks for a code sent to your verified phone and, at Tier 2 or above, a quick face check.

Venmo

Venmo is for heads in the US from Tier 1. It has the same limits as PayPal: at Tier 1 you can take out up to €295 at a time.

  • One Venmo account per head. Adding another replaces the one on file.
  • A 48-hour wait. To protect your account, a new or changed Venmo account can be paid 48 hours after you add it. We email you when it's added or changed, so if it wasn't you, there's time to tell us before any money moves.
  • Your balance's own holds still apply. Only money that's already available can go to Venmo.
  • One account, one head. A Venmo account used by more than one 50heads account is checked by a person before anything is paid.

If Venmo payouts are paused, your Venmo stays on file and shows why; use PayPal or your bank until it's back.

What we store

Bank details are held by our payment provider, Wise, not by us. We keep a token and the last four characters so you can tell your methods apart. Venmo numbers and PayPal emails are stored encrypted.

Default method

Mark one method as default. It's used for the automatic month-end payout. Once a bank account is on file, it's usually the cheapest default.

Name matching for Tier 3 (Established)

At Tier 3 the payout account must be in your own name. If the name doesn't match, the payout is returned and we explain what to change.
