These terms are between you and 50heads Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17486968) ("50heads", "we", "us"). They apply when you answer questions in the 50heads app. You accept them when you sign up, and again when you first withdraw. The acceptable use policy and privacy notice also apply.
1. Who can be a head
- You must be 18 or older.
- One person, one account. Don't share your account, let anyone else answer on it, or hold more than one.
- You must live in a country where we pay heads, and not be subject to sanctions.
2. You're independent
You're an independent contractor, not an employee or worker of 50heads. You choose whether, when and how often to answer. There's no minimum, no schedule and no obligation to accept any question. You use your own phone.
3. What you're paid
- Each question shows what it pays before you answer. You're paid that amount for each accepted answer.
- An answer is accepted unless it fails an attention or known-answer check, arrives too fast to have been read, comes from a device or account that fails our checks, or is part of activity that breaks these terms.
- Warm-up answers before you verify your phone are earned into pending and become available once you verify your phone.
4. Pending, available and payouts
- New earnings are pending (earned, still inside the holding period) for up to 7 days (3 at Tier 3) while checks finish. Then they're available (cleared and ready to withdraw).
- You can withdraw available earnings above the minimum for your country to a payout method in your name. The Withdraw screen shows the fee, the currency and the amount that will arrive before you confirm, and that is the amount we send.
- The payout methods offered depend on the country of your verified phone. PayPal is offered everywhere we pay heads. In the US we also offer Venmo and a US bank account; in the UK, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar, a UK bank account; in most other countries, a bank transfer. Bank accounts need Tier 2. A method we don't offer in your country can't be added.
- We pay PayPal and Venmo in your own currency (pounds, dollars, euros or Canadian dollars; Venmo in dollars only), and bank transfers in your bank account's currency.
- Fees: your first withdrawal each calendar month is free, except a bank transfer that needs a currency exchange. After that, PayPal and Venmo cost 2% of the amount (up to €24), a UK bank transfer €0.25, and any other bank transfer €0.60.
- We send payouts in batches at 09:00 and 17:00 UK time on UK business days. A new or changed Venmo account can be paid 48 hours after it's added.
- If a payout fails or comes back, the whole amount, fee included, returns to your available balance and we tell you. We never switch your payout to another method without asking you.
- Before any payout we check the payee against the UK, US, EU and UN sanctions lists. If a payout is held for a check, we'll tell you it's held, but we may not be able to tell you why.
5. Rejections and clawbacks
- We may reject answers that aren't accepted under section 3, including after they reach pending.
- We may reclaim earnings already paid only where we find, on a confirmed investigation, that they came from fraud (for example, several accounts run by one person, or automation), and only for the period affected. We'll record a reason and tell you.
- A person, not an automated check, decides any restriction, suspension or closure of your account, any tier change and any clawback. We tell you the reasons in writing, in the app and by email, at the latest on the day the decision takes effect. If our checks put your payouts on hold while a person looks, we tell you that too.
- You can appeal any rejection, clawback, tier change, hold or failed check at any time, one appeal at a time. A person who wasn't part of the decision reviews it and replies in writing within two weeks at the latest. In plain terms, we aim to decide appeals about an unpaid answer within 48 hours and other appeals within five business days; two weeks is the outer limit for every appeal.
6. Tiers and verification
- Tier 1 needs a verified phone number, confirmed again monthly if you earned. Tier 2 needs an ID and live-face check, with random re-checks. Tier 3 (Established) is by invitation, after a record of careful answers. Tiers show how strongly an account has been verified.
- The Tier 2 check costs €2.50. You need at least that much in available earnings. It is taken from those earnings when the check is approved. If the check is declined, or you are under 18, you are not charged.
- What we check and keep is set out on our verification page and in our privacy notice.
7. Rules
Don't use automation, scripts, emulators, modified apps or device farms. Don't coordinate answers with others. Don't try to identify requesters or other heads. Answer honestly: give your own view.
8. Tax
- You're responsible for declaring your earnings and paying any tax due.
- We're a digital platform operator under HMRC's reporting rules. Before your first payout we need your legal name, address, date of birth and tax number (your National Insurance number in the UK). Each year we report to HMRC what we paid you for each quarter, how many paid answers that covered and what we kept, and HMRC may share it with the tax authority where you live. There's no small-earner exemption for services: every head we pay is reported. We give you a copy by 31 January.
- In the US we need a signed Form W-9 before your first payout, and we send a Form 1099-NEC where the law requires it. In Canada we need your Social Insurance Number before your first payout.
- We keep payment and tax records for six years after the end of the tax year they relate to.
9. Self-billing agreement
By accepting these terms at your first payout, you agree that:
- we will issue self-billing invoices on your behalf for the answers you supply, numbered with the prefix SB- and marked "self-billing";
- you won't issue your own invoices for the same supplies;
- you'll tell us right away if you register for VAT, change your VAT number, or stop being registered;
- this agreement lasts 12 months and renews each year when you confirm it; either of us can end it, after which we'll pay you against ordinary remittance statements instead.
10. Ending
You can close your account at any time; we'll pay any available earnings above the minimum. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms. Where we close an account for reasons other than fraud, we pay earned amounts as normal.
11. Changes
We'll give you at least 30 days' notice of material changes, in the app and by email, and ask you to accept them before your next payout.
12. General
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protections your local law gives you. Our automated monitoring and decisions notice explains the automated systems that check answers and make or support decisions about your account and pay, and your rights to an explanation, written reasons and a human review; it's the information the EU Platform Work Directive requires, and we give it to every head. Translations are for convenience; the English version governs.
