Tier 2 questions pay about 2.6 times as much as Tier 1, and include targeted and free-text questions. To reach Tier 2 you pass an ID and live-face check, once.
What you need
- A valid passport, driving license or national ID card.
- Good light and about two minutes.
- To be 18 or older.
How it works
- In the app, go to You, then Your tier, then Verify my ID.
- Read the consent screen and tick the box. The check is optional and you can withdraw consent later.
- Photograph your ID, then follow the on-screen prompts for a short selfie video.
- The result usually arrives within two minutes. We send a notification.
The check is run by a specialist identity provider. It confirms the document is genuine, that the face in front of the camera is live and matches it, and that the face isn't already on another 50heads account.
The fee
The check costs us money, so there is a $2.54 fee. It is taken from your first Tier 2 earnings, so you don't pay anything up front. You can choose to pay it right away instead.
What is kept
We receive a yes or a no, and your age band if you agree. The provider deletes your ID and face photos after its decision, within 30 days. We never see them. The provider keeps a face match only to stop duplicate accounts, and deletes it if you withdraw consent or close your account.
If it fails
Common causes are glare, a blurred photo or an expired document. You can try once more. If it fails again, you can appeal and a person will look at it.
Random re-checks
Tier 2 and 3 heads are occasionally asked for a three-second face check before a question. Dismissing it three times drops you to Tier 1.
