With the 50heads Slack app, anyone in your Slack workspace can ask verified people a short question without leaving Slack. The answers come back to the channel as a results card when the question closes.

Adding it to Slack

  1. In 50heads, open Settings, then Integrations.
  2. Choose Add to Slack and pick the workspace.
  3. Slack shows what the app can do. Allow it, and you're back on the Integrations page with the workspace listed.

On a personal account, you can add it yourself. On a team, only the team's owner or an admin can add, change or remove it. Other members can see that it's there.

A team is part of an organization, which can also verify your email domain and set rules for people on it. See Your organization and its domains.

Who pays

Every ask from Slack spends the credits of the 50heads account that added the app: yours, or your team's. Credits are the money you add to your 50heads balance to pay for answers. The people in Slack don't need a 50heads account, and they never see your card or billing details.

Because anyone in the workspace can ask, each workspace has a daily spend cap.

The daily cap

A new workspace can spend up to 2,000 credits a day. You can change it on the Integrations page, from 100 to 10,000,000 credits; the change takes effect right away.

An ask that would go over the cap is refused, and nothing is spent. The cap starts again at midnight UTC. The Integrations page shows what the workspace has spent today. More in Spend caps.

Asking a question

Type /50heads ask in any channel the app is in. A form opens:

  • Question: one short, clear question.
  • Type: pick one, yes or no, put in order, or A or B.
  • Options: up to four short text options, for the types that need them.
  • Heads: 20, 50 or 100 people.
  • Tier: Tier 1 (phone-verified) or Tier 2 (ID-verified).

Before you send it, the form shows the price, for example "50 answers, €12". Only you see the reply that confirms it was asked.

Other commands:

  • /50heads balance shows the account's credits and how much of today's cap is used.
  • /50heads help lists the commands.

The results card

When the question closes, 50heads posts a card in the channel you asked from. It shows:

  • the question and who asked it;
  • how many chose each option, as a bar for each one;
  • which option led, and how strong the lead is for a sample of that size;
  • a link to the full results in 50heads.

Ask a follow-up opens the form again with the question filled in, so you can change it and ask again.

Slack messages from 50heads are in English for now.

When someone pastes a link to public results (50heads.com/r/…), Slack shows the question and how many chose each option under it. Only results you've chosen to make public have these links.

What Slack sees

Slack sees what the app posts: the question, the options, how many chose each option, how strong the lead is, the link to the results and the Slack name of the person who asked. We keep the Slack user ID of whoever asked so the card can say who it was.

Slack never sees who answered. No head's name, account, phone or location goes to Slack, and neither do card, bank or billing details.

Removing it

Either:

Either way, we revoke the app's access to Slack right away. Questions already asked still finish and still appear in 50heads, but no more cards are posted to Slack.
