With the 50heads app on Zapier, a Zap can ask verified people a short question when something happens in your other apps, and do something with the answers when they come back. You don't need to write any code.
Connecting your account
You start in Zapier, not in 50heads:
- In Zapier, add a 50heads trigger or action to a Zap.
- Choose Sign in and sign in to 50heads.
- 50heads shows what Zapier is asking to do. Check the account (personal, or a team you belong to) and approve.
The connection then appears in 50heads under Settings, then Integrations, and under Connections in Developers.
Zapier can ask questions, read your questions and results, see question types and prices, see your balance, and set up the hooks its triggers use. It can't see who answered, and it never sees card, bank or billing details.
Triggers
A trigger starts a Zap when something happens in 50heads:
- Question completed: a question got every answer it asked for. It carries how many chose each option, and the go or no-go verdict if the question has a go line.
- Question closed underfilled: a question closed with fewer answers than it asked for. The unanswered part is refunded.
- Credits running low: your balance fell below your low-credit threshold.
When you set up a trigger, Zapier shows your most recent real events of that kind as samples. If you have none yet, ask a question first.
Actions and search
- Ask a question: asks verified people a question, with the type, options, number of answers, tier and your own reference.
- Add heads: reopens a finished question for more answers. The results merge.
- Cancel a question: stops a live question. The unanswered part is refunded.
- Get results: how many chose each option, the go or no-go verdict, the head-to-head table for rankings and comparisons of three or more options, and the cohort hash, which is the same for questions asked of the same audience.
- Find a question: by your own reference or by its 50heads id.
What it costs
A Zap pays for answers like any other ask. Before an ask step runs, Zapier shows the price, for example "50 answers, $13". Reading results and finding questions are free.
Asks spend the credits of the 50heads account you approved: yours, or your team's. Credits are the money you add to your 50heads balance to pay for answers.
The daily cap
Each Zapier connection has a daily spend cap. A new one starts at 5,000 credits. To change it, open Settings, then Integrations and choose Change the daily cap, or edit the connection in Developers. The change takes effect right away.
An ask that would go over the cap is refused, and nothing is spent. The step fails in Zapier with a message that says so. The cap starts again at midnight UTC. More in Spend caps.
Retries never charge twice
Zapier sometimes runs a step again, for example after a timeout. Each ask and add-heads step carries a key made from the Zap run and the step, so a retry gets back the question from the first attempt. You're charged once.
Disconnecting
Either:
- in Settings, then Integrations, choose Disconnect next to the connection; or
- under Connections in Developers, revoke it.
Either way, Zapier's access stops at once and the hooks its triggers use are removed. Its Zaps can no longer ask or read results, and they stop starting. Questions already asked still finish and still appear in 50heads.
Deleting the connection inside Zapier stops its Zaps there, but the connection stays listed in 50heads until you disconnect it here.
On a team, only the owner or an admin can change the cap or disconnect, including for a connection another member made. Choose Change the daily cap next to it in Settings, then Integrations. A team is part of an organization, which can also verify your email domain and set rules for people on it. See Your organization and its domains.
Troubleshooting
- The ask step failed with a cap message. The connection reached its daily cap. Raise the cap or wait until midnight UTC.
- The ask step failed for lack of credits. Top up your balance, then replay the Zap run in Zapier.
- A trigger shows no samples. There are no recent events of that kind yet. Ask a question, or wait for one to finish, then test the trigger again.
- A Zap stopped starting. Check the connection is still listed in Settings, Integrations, and that the Zap is on. Turning a Zap off removes its hook; turning it on adds it back.
- Zapier asks you to sign in again. The connection was disconnected or has expired. Sign in again from Zapier.
Integrations counts the Zaps listening on each connection, so you can see which hooks are live. For the technical details, see the Zapier developer docs.
