Export the answers as a file

Every results page can download every answer as a file. Neither file says who answered.

  • Download CSV (in the app, Export CSV) gives a spreadsheet: one row per answer, with the option or text, any reason, the tier, the time and the attestation reference (a reference showing the phone and app check passed).
  • Download JSONL (in the app, Export JSONL) gives JSON lines: one answer per line, each line a small JSON object. It is for scripts, data pipelines and model training rather than spreadsheets.

If you have filtered the results, for example to one country or one option, both files hold only the answers that match. A set of questions has its own CSV and JSONL with every question in it.

What each JSON line holds

Each line has the same details as the CSV, plus:

  • the question, its type and its options;
  • the answer as option numbers (choice), counting from 0, so a script does not have to match labels;
  • the cohort hash, explained below.

The API reference lists every field. The API has the same files at /v2/questions/{id}/export.csv and /v2/questions/{id}/export.jsonl.

What the cohort hash means

The cohort hash is a short code, like ch1_3f9a0c2e71b4d856, shown under the details on each results page and on every JSON line. The same value means the same kind of audience was asked: who answers, how many, which tier and which targeting. Change any of those and the code changes.

Use it to group answers from questions put to the same audience. It never identifies anyone. It is worked out from your settings for the question, not from the people who answered, and it never includes the words you asked. How the cohort hash is made.

Share a public page

Results are private by default. To share one, open it and switch on Public page. You get a link like 50heads.com/en-gb/r/… that anyone can open without signing in. It shows the question, the bars and the confidence line (how strongly the answers favour the leader), with buttons to share on X, LinkedIn and WhatsApp.

  • Public pages are hidden from search engines.
  • They show no details of individual answers and nothing about you.
  • Switch Public page off at any time and the link stops working.

A public page shows the bars but no written answers. To show someone the full results, written answers included, make a private link. Open the question, find Private link, choose how many days it works for (1 to 90, 30 by default) and choose Make a private link.

  • Anyone with the link can open it, without an account. It never shows who answered, and search engines do not index it.
  • We show you the link once, when you make it. Copy it then.
  • Each link lists how many times it has been opened and when it runs out. A question can have up to 10 live links.
  • Revoke stops a link working at once. A link also stops when its days are up.
  • Costs, references and flags stay with you; the person sees the question, how many chose each option and the answers.

Using results elsewhere

You may use results in your own work, decks and publications. If you publish them, please say they came from 50heads and how many heads answered. The full terms are in our terms for requesters.
