With the 50heads app for Microsoft Teams, people in your Microsoft 365 organisation can ask verified people a short question from a Teams chat or channel. The results come back to the same conversation as a card when the question closes.

Adding it to Teams

  1. In Teams, open Apps, find 50heads and choose Add. If you can't find it, your Teams admin may need to allow it first.
  2. Message the app in a chat with it, or mention @50heads in a channel.
  3. The first time, it replies with a Connect to 50heads button. Choose it, sign in to 50heads if asked, pick the account that should pay (yours, or a team's) and choose Connect. On a team, only the team's owner or an admin can connect it.

The link in the button works once and only for a short while. If it has run out, message the app again for a new one.

From then on, anyone in that Microsoft 365 organisation can ask. One organisation is connected to one 50heads account at a time. The account appears in Settings, then Integrations.

Who pays

Every ask from Teams spends the credits of the 50heads account it's connected to. The people in Teams don't need a 50heads account, and they never see your card or billing details.

Because anyone in the organisation can ask, it has a daily spend cap. A new organisation can spend up to 2,000 credits a day. The owner or an admin of the account can change it on the Integrations page, from 100 to 10,000,000 credits. An ask that would go over the cap is refused, and nothing is spent. The cap starts again at midnight UTC. More in Spend caps.

Asking a question

Type ask and your question, for example ask Which name do you prefer?. A form opens:

  • Your question: one short, clear question.
  • How people answer: pick one option, or yes or no.
  • Options: one per line, for pick one option.
  • Number of answers: 20, 50 or 100.

Choose Review and confirm. If the wording could be clearer, you'll see the suggested changes first; untick any you don't want. The price is shown before you confirm. Nothing is spent until you choose Send, and pressing it more than once still asks only once. Change takes you back to the form.

Some accounts need a person to approve an ask before it goes out. The credits are held, and an approver decides in 50heads.

Checking the balance

Type balance to see the account's credits and what your organisation has spent today against its daily cap. Type help for what the app can do.

If the account doesn't have enough credits for a question, the app says so. An owner or admin of the account manages its credits in 50heads.

The results card

When the question closes, 50heads posts a card in the conversation you asked from. It shows how many chose each option, which option led and how strong the lead is, with a link to the full results in 50heads. The card is in the language of the person who asked, when the website has it.

Teams never sees who answered. No head's name, account, phone or location goes to Teams, and neither do card, bank or billing details.

Disconnecting and uninstalling

  • To disconnect, the owner or an admin of the 50heads account opens Settings, then Integrations and removes the organisation. Asks from Teams stop, and no more results cards are posted. The app then offers to connect again.
  • To uninstall, remove the 50heads app in Teams, or your Teams admin removes it for everyone. This stops the app in Teams, but the organisation stays connected to the 50heads account until it's disconnected on the Integrations page.

Questions already asked still finish and stay in 50heads. What we keep and for how long is in our privacy notice.
