With the 50heads Jira app, anyone who can comment on an issue in your Jira site can ask verified people a short question from that issue. 50heads replies on the issue with the price and posts the results there as a comment when the question closes.
Adding it to Jira
- In 50heads, open Settings, then Integrations.
- Choose Add to Jira. Atlassian asks you to pick the site and shows what the app can do.
- Allow it, and you're back on the Integrations page with the site listed.
On a personal account, you can add it yourself. On a team, only the team's owner or an admin can add, change or remove it. Other members can see that it's there.
One Jira site belongs to one 50heads account at a time. To add a second site, choose Add another site and pick it on Atlassian's page.
Who pays
Every ask from Jira spends the credits of the 50heads account that added the app: yours, or your team's. Credits are the money you add to your 50heads balance to pay for answers. People in Jira don't need a 50heads account, and they never see your card or billing details.
Because anyone who can comment can ask, each site has a daily spend cap.
The daily cap
A new site can spend up to 2,000 credits a day. You can change it on the Integrations page, from 100 to 10,000,000 credits; the change takes effect right away.
An ask that would go over the cap is refused on the issue, and nothing is spent. The cap starts again at midnight UTC. More in Spend caps.
Asking from an issue
Start a comment on the issue with /50heads ask, then write the question:
/50heads ask Which name is easier to remember? | Crumb & Co | Steelworks
- Options go after the question, separated by
|, or as a bulleted list on the lines below it. Give 2 to 4. - No options asks a yes or no question.
- Heads: 20 people answer. Put 50 or 100 straight after
askto change it, for example/50heads ask 50 Which …. - Language: write the question in the language of the 50heads account that added the app, as set in its settings. Heads who read that language answer.
50heads asks at Tier 1 (phone-verified people). It replies on the issue with what the ask costs, and adds a link to the question under the issue's links. The question is filed in 50heads with the issue key, for example jira:ENG-42, so you can find it later.
A comment that doesn't start with /50heads is never read as a question. /50heads help replies with how to ask.
Jira sometimes sends the same comment to us twice. It is asked, and charged, once.
The results comment
When the question closes, 50heads adds a comment to the issue with:
- the question;
- how many chose each option, as a bar for each;
- which option led, and how strong the lead is for a sample of that size;
- a link to the full results in 50heads.
Comments from 50heads are in English for now. In Jira they appear under the name of the person who added the app.
What Jira sees
Jira sees what the app posts: the price of each ask, the question, the options, how many chose each, how strong the lead is and the link to the results. To read the command, 50heads receives new comments on the site's issues; it keeps only the comment that starts with /50heads, its issue and its id.
Jira never sees who answered. No head's name, account, phone or location goes to Jira, and neither do card, bank or billing details.
Removing it
In Settings, then Integrations, choose Remove next to the site. We stop listening to the site's comments right away. Questions already asked still finish and still appear in 50heads, but no more comments are posted to Jira.
To take back Atlassian's permission too, remove 50heads under Connected apps in your Atlassian account settings.
