Why we ask
Platforms that pay people must report those payments to the tax authority in many countries. In the UK that is HMRC, under the digital platform reporting rules. So before your first payout we may ask for:
- your legal name and address;
- your date of birth;
- your National Insurance number, or your country's tax number.
The Withdraw button takes you to Tax details if they're needed. The reason is shown on the screen.
Who sees them
Only us and the tax authority. Requesters never see them. They're stored encrypted, and changing them asks you to confirm it's you.
Who is reported
We report each head's annual earnings and fees by 31 January after the year ends. Heads with fewer than 30 paid transactions and under about €2,000 in the year are excluded. If we report you, we send you a copy of what we reported.
In the United States
If you live in the US, your tax details are a Form W-9: your legal name, a business name if you use one, whether you're an individual (or sole proprietor) or a single-member LLC, your US address, your date of birth and your SSN, ITIN or EIN. You sign it by ticking the certification and typing your full legal name. We need it before your first payout, so we never have to hold back tax from your pay. Your number is stored encrypted and shown back with only its last four digits.
If we pay you $2,000 or more in a calendar year, we send the IRS a Form 1099-NEC by 31 January and put your copy under Tax details. It shows what we paid out to you that year, in US dollars.
Your tax
Heads are independent, not employees, so we don't deduct tax. You're responsible for declaring your earnings where you live. Your annual statement helps.
Statements
Monthly summaries and annual statements are under Earnings, then Statements, in the app and at 50heads.com/app/earn/statements. Download them as PDF.
